Puppy Grooming & Puppy Club

Setting Puppies Up for a Lifetime of Stress-Free Grooming

At The Canine Parlour, we believe puppy grooming starts long before a full haircut.

Once your puppy has completed their vaccinations and has been cleared to go out and explore the world, we recommend introducing them to grooming as early as possible. Early positive experiences help prevent fear, anxiety and grooming-related stress later in life.

For a young puppy, a grooming salon can be a big and overwhelming place. There are unfamiliar sounds, new people, strange equipment, baths, dryers, brushes and handling experiences they’ve never encountered before. Launching a puppy straight into a full groom can be overwhelming and may create lasting negative associations.

That’s why we’ve created our behaviourist-backed Puppy Club.

Rather than rushing the process, we combine training and grooming to gently introduce your puppy to the salon environment, helping them build confidence, trust and positive experiences every step of the way.

Our Puppy Club is split across three carefully planned visits, allowing your puppy to progress at their own pace while building a lasting bond with their groomer.

Visit One – Salon Fun!

The first visit is all about confidence building.

Your puppy will have the opportunity to explore the salon, play with toys, enjoy treats and begin learning that grooming is a positive experience.

During this session we gently introduce:

* The grooming table

* Brushes and combs

* Low-noise dryers

* Handling exercises

* A gentle introduction to nail clipping

Everything is reward-based and tailored to your puppy’s comfort level.

This visit creates the foundation for a confident grooming journey ahead.

Visit Two – Bath, Blow Dry & Confidence Building

During the second visit, your puppy will experience their first bath and blow dry in a calm and supportive environment.

This visit includes:

* Warm bath and gentle drying

* Confidence-building handling exercises

* Light nail trim if tolerated

* Paw pad tidy if tolerated

* Plenty of cuddles, praise and rewards

We never force a puppy through a procedure simply to “get the job done.”

Creating fear around grooming can lead to lifelong challenges, so we always work at your puppy’s pace and focus on building trust first.

Visit Three – First Full Groom

By the third visit, most puppies are ready to experience their first full groom.

Using everything they’ve learned throughout Puppy Club, we can safely and confidently complete a groom while continuing to build positive associations.

By this stage, our goal is for puppies to be excited to visit the salon and happy to see their groomer.
